Task 1 Vocabulary:
- Leprosy- Chronic bacterial disease. (e.g. Her Leprosy gradually became more noticeable on her body)
- Misconduct- Mismanagement or bad behavior. (e.g. Misconduct at work is not tolerated)
- Inspection- View closely and critically. (e.g. The AA is a good place to go for your monthly car inspection)
- Foundling- Abandoned infant that is found. (e.g. The baby on the doorstep was a poor foundling)
- Legislator- One that creates or enacts law. (e.g. I sent a letter to the local legislator)
- Hesitate- Hold back. (e.g. I did not hesitate when to call for help)
- Apprehensive- Fearful or unpleasant emotion. (e.g. I was apprehensive for the safety of my team)
- Muggy- Hot and humid. (e.g. The weather was very muggy on Tuesday)
- Variation- Extent of variance. (e.g. There is great variation between the colours of the boxes)
Task 2: Vocabulary
- Prejudice- Judging someone before you know him/her.
- Alacrity- Cheerful willingness. (e.g. he accepted the job offer with alacrity)
- Erroneous - Containing error or stay away from moral. (e.g. people sometimes make erroneous assumptions).
- Apprise- To give notice to. (I think its polite to apprise people before you visit them)
- Affidavit- A written or printed statement made under oath.
- Admissible- A term used to describe evidence. (the lawyer presented legally admissible evidence)
- Interpreter- To translate verbally. (e.g. I would like to work as an interpreter at the legal field, as I can speak both arabic and english)
- Incite- Encourage
- Incitement- The state of being incited
- Authentic- Made or done in traditional or original way
- Persecuting- Oppressive treatment because of race or religion. (e.g. Hitler had persecuted the jews during World War II)
Task 3: Vocabulary
- Ineffable - Incapable of being expressed in words
- Inevitable - Incapable of being avoided or escaped
- Deity - God, capitalized in this sense or a goddess
- Convert - Turn from one belief to another (e.g. My interviewee converted from islam to the Bahai Faith)
- Accumulate- to pile up (e.g. Files and documents are accumulating in my office)
- Utensil - Useful article
- Impenetrable - Incapable of being understood
- Rational - having reason or relating to reason (e.g.
- Engineers are rational thinkers)
Emerge - Rise, come forth or appear (e.g.
slam emerged in the 7th century in Arabia)
Addressed - Direct one’s remarks (e.g.
She addressed my boss as Mr Jones)
Creature - Animal or human being, living being or organism
Reassure - Restore one’s confidence (e.g.
I gave my son a reassuring smile)
Regenerating - formed or created again
Spiritual - Relating to spirit or sacred matters or deeply religious
Precise - Definite or highly (e.g.
He gave precise answers)
Task 4: Vocabulary
- Bequeath - To dispose of money by last will. (e.g. She bequeathed half of her company to her niece)
- Heritage - Something that comes to one by reason of birth. (e.g. I always teach my children to be proud of their african heritage).
- Alteration- Adjustment. (e.g. the Alberton house had some alterations in 1920)
- Functional- designed to be practical and useful. (e.g. The Alberton house had a functional kitchen)
- Spectacular- Amazing and impressive. (e.g. the view from the mountain was spectacular)
- Precise- Definite and exact. (e.g. The student wrote precise answers in his exam)
- Joyous- Joyful and happy (e.g. The joyous sound of children playing)
- Placid- Calm and peaceful
- Retaliation- Getting back
- Cordwood- Wood stacked in cords for use as fuel
Task 5: Vocabulary
- Insulate- To cover. (e.g. An electric wire is insulated with rubber)
- Voyager- a long journey/ travel. (e.g. I had a voyager to Dubai)
- Preserve- To maintain in spite of difficulty (e.g. The program encourage students to preserve in the face of difficulty).
- Consequences- Result or outcome of something (e.g. The accident was a consequence of reckless driving)
- Thermal- Cause by heat
- Turbines- a rotating machine that has a motor (e.g. There are many wind turbines in Palmerston north)
- Broadcasts- To transmit programs from radio or television
- Aircraft- plane, any flying machine
Task 6: Vocabulary
- Wellbeing- The condition of being healthy and happy. (e.g. the doctor realised an improvement in my wellbeing, when I started eating vegetables)
- Nutritious- Food that is full of natural substances such as minerals. (e.g. Vegetables are very nutritious)
- Agility- The ability to change the position of your body quickly and control it
- Cumulative effect- Results of something done repeatedly over many years.
- Nutritional supplements- Some products used to boost the nutritional content of the diet such as, vitamins, minerals etc. (e.g. Body builders use a lot of nutritional supplements to achieve their targets).
- Warmup- A period of preparation for a game or exercise. (e.g. Athletes needs to warmup prior to the race).
- Balance- The ability to control your body in any position.
- Intake- Amount of food taken into the body. (e.g. To achieve healthy living, it is important to know your daily intake of calories).
